Havan Pooja & Yagya in Lucknow
A havan is worship through fire. The pandit invokes Agni, and with each mantra the family offers ahutis of ghee and havan samagri into the kund, until the purnahuti with a coconut at the end. It is performed on its own for peace in the home, after an illness, on a birthday or anniversary, before a new venture, and as the closing part of many larger poojas. A yagya is the larger form: more pandits, a longer recitation, a bigger kund and many more ahutis.
Havan Pooja & Yagya from ₹11,000This page brings together four quite different rituals. Navgraha Shanti Havan, with two pandits, is offered to the nine grahas and is often suggested after a horoscope reading. Sunderkand Havan follows a recitation of the Sundarkand. Rudra Yagya, with five pandits, centres on the Rudri path to Bhagwan Shiv. Maha Mrityunjay Jaap is chanting of the Mahamrityunjay mantra a set number of times, with a sava lakh option, usually completed with a havan. Tell us which one the family has in mind.

Choosing wellHow to choose a havan in Lucknow
Tell the pandit the purpose — peace at home, a family member's health, a graha shanti your jyotishi suggested, or thanksgiving. The purpose decides which havan, which mantras and how many ahutis. If you already have a recommendation from a jyotishi you trust, share it word for word so the pandit can follow it.
A Navgraha Shanti or Sunderkand Havan fits a living room or terrace. Rudra Yagya with five pandits needs room for all of them around the kund, and a sava lakh Maha Mrityunjay Jaap runs across several days with pandits chanting in turns. Match the format to your home and to the days the family can give.
Real fire needs real precautions: the kund on a sand or brick base, nothing hanging above it, a bucket of water close by, and children kept at a distance. In flats, open the windows and keep fans off near the flame. A terrace or courtyard is ideal whenever the weather allows.
Usually the head of the family, or the person for whom the havan is being done, sits as yajman, often with the spouse. Decide this beforehand and make sure that person can sit through the whole havan; the pandit will say what they should wear and whether a fast is expected.
LucknowHavan through Lucknow's seasons
In Lucknow the weather decides where a havan goes. From October to March, a terrace or open courtyard is the most comfortable place for a fire ritual, and mornings are pleasant. From May until the monsoon, a havan under the afternoon sun is hard on elders and pandits alike, so once the pandit confirms the muhurat we plan around early-morning or evening hours where possible, with cold water and shade arranged. In the monsoon, a covered verandah or a ventilated room with a smaller kund works better than an open terrace. In high-rise societies, check whether fire rituals are allowed on balconies before the day.
TimingWhen to book
Give a week or two of notice for a single-kund havan. Rudra Yagya needs five pandits free together, so two to three weeks is safer, and a sava lakh Maha Mrityunjay Jaap is planned over several days. A simple havan takes one to two hours; the pandit will tell you how long a yagya or jaap will run.

FAQQuestions people ask
What is Navgraha Shanti Havan done for?
It is a havan to the nine grahas — Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Budh, Guru, Shukra, Shani, Rahu and Ketu — usually performed when a family's jyotishi suggests a graha shanti. Our listing includes two pandits and the samidha used for each graha.
What does the 1.25 lakh option in Maha Mrityunjay Jaap mean?
It means chanting the Mahamrityunjay mantra sava lakh times, shared among several pandits over a number of days and usually completed with a havan. Smaller jaap counts are also possible; the pandit will explain the options and how long each takes.
Is a havan safe inside a flat?
Yes, with care: a small kund on a protective base, measured samagri so the smoke stays light, open windows and nothing flammable above. Check your society's rules and avoid placing the kund directly under a smoke detector.
How is Sunderkand Havan different from Sundarkand Path?
Sundarkand Path is the recitation of the Sundarkand, usually sung with music by a mandali. Sunderkand Havan pairs the recitation with a havan, with ahutis offered as the pandit guides. If you want only the path with music, see our Sundarkand Path page.
Do we need to fast for the havan?
Some families keep a fast until the havan is complete, especially the yajman. It is not expected of everyone; the pandit will tell you what your tradition asks.
